#youshape Month- The Young People Take Over

February 2017 has seen the Young People in scouting take over and telling the leaders the activities they want to do within scouting and the badges they want to earn. The scheme is a national run scheme with the Youth Commissioners taking the lead in the organisation. Our own district Youth Commissioner, Jamie Bentley, and his Deputy ,Sean Drury, took on the organisation of two weekends of fun for the Young People of Canterbury district.

The First weekend run by our two young and energetic Youth commissioners saw the District Beaver council and some of the district sixers and seconders from the cub packs across the District come together on the saturday, to tell the leaders the activities they wished to do ad to come up with a new badge that they wanted to work on. this was followed by a sleepover with an epic film and plenty of hot chocolate. on the sunday, over 130 other beavers and cubs decended on Ross Wood to join in the fun. the day included many activities run the the beaver council and the sixers and seconders form the district. this was then followed by an excellent campfire lead by Jamie.

The second weekends, held at the ed of the month saw the Scouts and Explorer sections from across district come together as one group for a fun weekend end. The Saturday saw troop forums were held to find out what our young people liked and disliked about scouting and helped and came up with ideas for their own campsite and trips away, as well as new badges they would like to have the opportunity to earn. this was then followed by a wide game and another campfire lead by Youth Commissioner Jamie. The Sunday saw a day of team work where the young people worked in teams with Scouts and Explorers from different groups to make a Sudan Chair to be able to carry a team member around the site in a number of time trial races.
